Assassin charged

Police have charged the assassin, Juraj Cintula with premeditated revenge murder of a protected person in the attempt stage, he faces 25 years to life in prison. The 71-year-old man is currently in a NAKA cell in Nitra. The police did not want to comment on the details of the case. It respects the embargo imposed on the case by the supervising Attorney General's Office.

“Due to the qualification of the act, the case is being supervised by the Serious Crime Unit of the General Prosecutor's Office. As the case is currently undergoing procedural actions, it is not possible to provide further information for now,” says spokeswoman Zuzana Drobova.

Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj-Eštok, however, confirmed the accusation against the attacker, who was not a member of any radicalized group and was acting as a lone wolf. His actions could have been accelerated after the presidential election.

"I can confirm that this is the accused, he has taken part in a number of anti-government protests that have been organised since last year. The suspect was also part of a protest at a previous government session in the Trnava region.”

The minister confirmed that the reason for his attack was supposed to be disagreement with the actions of the current government. “We are working with only one version, that it was a politically motivated act,” stated Matúš Šutaj Eštok.
