French state decoration awarded to former ombudsman Mária Patakyová

Professor and former ombudswoman Mária Patakyová has been awarded the French state decoration Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Mérite (Knight of the National Order of Merit). TASR was informed by Bronislava Sinčáková from the press department of the Embassy of France in Slovakia. The French ambassador to Slovakia, Pascal Le Deunff, praised "Ms Patakyová's outstanding academic career in law and her remarkable commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms, which France cares deeply about". The ceremony took place on 23 May. The Ordre national du Mérite is a French order of honour founded on 3 December 1963 by General Charles de Gaulle. It honours individuals, whether French or foreign, who have shown exceptional merit in their field of activity.
