President Zuzana Čaputová on Wednesday paid a farewell visit to Austria, thanking her counterpart Alexander Van der Bellen for excellent cooperation over the past five years and highlighting outstanding bilateral relations between Vienna and Bratislava.
The meeting took place at the Schloss Hof palace in Lower Austria. According to Čaputová, the site symbolises the time "in which we lived 35 years ago, when from the other side of the Morava River we looked at Austria as a free country from the then communist Czechoslovakia and we longed to become a free country as well“.
The Slovak president noted that Austria is the second largest investor in Slovakia. According to her, good relations, solidarity and cooperation have proved to be crucial especially in crises, mentioning the coronavirus pandemic, migration crisis and security crisis following the Russian invasion of Ukraine as examples.
