Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) bodyguards did their utmost to protect him during the May 15 shooting, in the given conditions, and their actions saved his life, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Hlas-SD) declared on Wednesday.
Sutaj Estok responded this way to the call by Progressive Slovakia (PS) leader Michal Simecka, who wants Sutaj Estok to answer whether there was any failure on the part of the security forces. He also confirmed that the Internal Affairs Inspectorate is continuing to investigate the response by the bodyguard unit and if any lapses are discovered, he's ready to take action. The Interior Minister reiterated that the police investigation has continued to work with a version that the shooter wasn't really a lone wolf and that the Prosecutor-General's Office might still reclassify the attack as an act of terrorism.
