D-day means unity

D-day means unity

On the beaches of Normandy, where the landing of the Allied troops, took place in 1944, they also fought for freedom and a better future for Slovakia, President Zuzana Caputova stated on Thursday referring to the special event marking the 80th anniversary of the D-day. Caputova arrived in the north of France on Thursday at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by other Slovak officials. According to her, D-Day was one of the greatest military operations during the Second World War.

“Today, we also commemorate the symbol of D-day that is unity, collaboration of states, of nations. The key stone of co-operation of European countries was laid.”

Given that incumbent President's tenure ends on June 15, she considers her participation in the commemorative events to be an opportunity to say goodbye to a number of heads of state and governments who accepted the invitation of the French President.
