In protest against the new act on STVR, public broadcaster RTVS employees organised a mobilising strike on Thursday in the form of a march. Getting from the Slovak Radio building, they held a meeting in front of the Parliament at the time of the debate on the new law on STVR. The Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová considers the employees' initiative to be a political protest organized and coordinated by the current management of the broadcaster and some political parties.
Current General Director Lubos Machaj rejects her statements. “It is definitely not any activity coordinated with any political parties. Employees express their free opinion who only announce to us when and in what form a strike will be held.”
As a symbol of being silenced, the protesting employees covered their mouths with black tape. Some RTVS employees protested against the announced changes with a several-hour strike already on Monday, June 10.
