First Slovak scientist becomes member of European Molecular Biology Organisation

The Director of the Biomedical Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) Silvia Pastorekova has become the first representative of the Slovak scientific community to be elected to the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), TASR has been told by spokesperson for the Slovak Academy of Sciences Monika Tinakova.

Nearly one hundred Nobel Prize laureates have been members of this organisation, and such membership recognises excellence in research and outstanding achievements in life sciences. In her research work, Pastorekova mainly devotes herself to elucidating the influence of oxygen deficiency in tumour tissue on the development and progression of cancer. She sees her election as an excellent opportunity to deepen the link between EMBO and Slovak scientists.
