President Peter Pellegrini dismissed two members of the Judicial Council, Lucia Berdisová and Tomáš Gábriš. They were appointed to the position by former president Zuzana Čaputová. Pellegrini announced that he would appoint three new members on Tuesday (July 16), one of them to replace a member who resigned or whose mandate ended. Pellegrini explained that all new members will come from the legal profession.
"I can assure you in advance that all three future members of the Judicial Council will come from a legal background, both from the real practice of law, so that they will be people who have been in real contact on a daily basis when defending their clients with the judiciary, but at the same time, it will also be people from the Bar Association (...)," Pellegrini added. The President also pointed out the importance of the independence of the judiciary for democracy and restoring the damaged reputation of the Slovak judiciary.
