On Thursday (18 July), a coalition MP was physically assaulted in the Turčianske Teplice district, northern Slovakia. On Friday, the police confirmed this information and opened a criminal investigation for the crime of violation of domestic freedom and the crime of bodily harm. The case concerns Pavel Ľupták from the coalition SNS deputy club. As he said for independent Dennik N: "I don't think this was a politically motivated attack, even though I told the attacker that I am a public official." After the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico in May, this is yet another physical attack on a Slovak politician.
