Three Slovak MEPs from the Progressive Slovakia party and Renew Europe liberal faction were elected Vice-chairs on three different committees of the European Parliament.
Lubica Karvasova was elected as a vice-chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development. She is also the coordinator of the Renew Europe faction of the same committee.
Karvašová wants to make use of her many years of experience in finding compromises that she gained in diplomatic services. She said she will strive to cooperate with representatives of the regions and local governments so that the committee's work reflects their various needs and priorities.
Ludovit Odor (Progressive Slovakia/Renew Europe) was elected as a vice-chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee. He said he wants to focus on issues related to the overall competitiveness of the EU, the creation of a functional stock market union, the digital euro and the protection of sensitive financial personal data.
Lucia Yar (Progressive Slovakia/Renew Europe) was elected as a vice-chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Budgets. She is also the coordinator of the Renew Europe faction of the same committee. She said she wants to push for more direct money for regions, but also towards improving the defence of Europe and Slovakia and support for women.
The agenda of the committee on Budgets also includes the Recovery Plan and the Rule of Law Conditionality Mechanism, which are key for Slovakia.
Each committee has its chair and four vice-chairs. They will occupy their posts for 2.5 years and can be subsequently re-elected.
Last week, another Progressive Slovakia MEP, Martin Hojsík, was elected one of the 14 Vice-presidents of the European Parliament and Miriam Lexmann, an MEP from the Christian Democratic Party and member of the European People's faction was elected as a quaestor of the Parliament.
