President Peter Pellegrini signs amendment to Penal Code

President Peter Pellegrini signed into law on Thursday (25.7.) an amendment to the Penal Code that responds to comments by the European Commission. Last week, Parliament approved the amendment to the Penal Code with 77 lawmaker votes out of the present 121 in a fast-track procedure, whereas the remaining 44 legislators abstained. Parliament also greenlighted a coalition amending proposal that declaims the definition of the EU's financial interests.  Under the new law, a mandatory imprisonment will be handed down for crimes damaging the financial interests of the EU, if the upper range of the potential sentencing exceeds six years. Justice Minister Boris Susko does not believe that any additional special session of Parliament will be necessary over the issue of the Penal Code.
