Since 1st August, humanity has once again begun to live on ecological debt. This date is a warning for everyone - from individuals to large industrial enterprises. The dates show us when the planet's resources have been exhausted for the year if all people on the planet lived this way, the coordinator of the Climate Coalition, Lucia Szabová explained. Michaela Hletková Ploszeková from the Association of Industrial Associations and Transport noted that natural resource use varies by country. The list of affected countries mostly excludes the global south. Ecological debt includes overall resource consumption, not just industrial use. Countries with higher consumption deplete resources faster than those with lower consumption. Slovakia has been in ecological debt since 12th May. This date means that if we all consumed as much as we do, we would need three globes, explained Michaela Hletková Ploszeková.
