Slovak National Theatre (SND) general director Matej Drlicka received a French Knighthood of the Order of Arts and Letters award. He received it from French Culture Minister Rachida Dati, with the official award ceremony to be held in autumn this year. SND noted that, according to the French Embassy, the award for Drlicka comes in recognition of his longstanding involvement with culture and the excellent work he has done at the helm of the SND. As a manager he's spent twenty years in the art industry and his previous career as an orchestra player was closely connected with France.
"France played an important role in my life because it's a country where I was living and working for many long years. In the sphere of art, France is a great power, a trendsetter that has been shaping Europe in a fundamental fashion for centuries. [...] It's a great honour for me that this very country has noticed my work," added Drlicka.
