U.S. Steel's Košice steel mills has made public a loss of $10 million before interest and taxes for the second quarter of this year. This compares with a profit of $72 million for the same period last year. Overall, U. S. Steel reported a net profit of USD 183 million for the second quarter of 2024. U.S. Steel, which owns the Košice-based company, is to be taken over by Japanese concern Nippon Steel as part of the acquisition announced at the end of last year.
