The ruling of the Constitutional Court on the amendment to the Criminal Code was published on Tuesday in the Collection of Laws and parts of the Penal Code reform that were suspended by the Constitutional Court in February thus enter into force.
Exceptions are the provisions that were ruled to be contrary with the Constitution. These include the issue of property forfeiture or statute of limitations, which were in favour of the accused. At the same time, a law ensuring increased protection of the financial interests of the EU also enters into force.
At the beginning of July, the Constitutional Court ruled that most of the Penal Code amendment is in accordance with the Slovak Constitution. The then President and opposition challenged it in February. However, the Constitutional Court has confirmed that the way the law was adopted violated the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.
