Justice Minister Boris Susko will submit a draft response to the European Commission’s report on Slovakia’s rule of law at the cabinet meeting on August 21. The government assigned this task to him at a recent meeting. Susko will first consult with relevant state authorities about the report. The response will address inaccuracies and assess how government comments were incorporated. Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized the report for lacking objective facts and ignoring recent government efforts to enhance the rule of law. The EC report, published in late July, made seven recommendations for Slovakia. These include ensuring judicial independence, regulating lobbying, and improving media independence.
