Slovakia short of about 14 thousand nurses

The Health Minister wants to negotiate, but everything depends on the budget. The low starting salaries of nurses discourage many graduates, which is why they go abroad. This has been pointed out by the Nurses and Midwives Union. Slovak hospitals and outpatient clinics cannot compete with the conditions in most neighbouring countries. There is a shortage of approximately 14 thousand nurses in the Slovak system. Compared to Slovakia, according to the trade unionists, nurses abroad have better conditions, greater competences and employers respect their labour rights more.
