The beatification of Ján Havlík on Saturday 31 August will require several traffic restrictions in Šaštín-Stráže (Senica district). The organisers recommend arriving well in advance. The Holy Mass of beatification will begin at 10.00 a.m. in the area in front of the basilica, the communications team of the celebration informed. All organizational guidelines for the celebration are posted at www.janhavlik.sk. In the early 1950s Havlík was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment in a fabricated trial by the Communists, and in a subsequent trial he was given an extra year. Physical abuse in pre-trial detention and harsh prison conditions while working in the uranium mines around Jáchymov destroyed his health. He died in 1956 aged 37.
