NBS is hosting the EFA international financial conference in Bratislava

From Wednesday (August 21), Bratislava will become the center of discussions for four days by more than 700 academics, experts and doctoral students in the field of finance from 36 countries around the world. The 51st year of the international conference of the European Financial Association (EFA) will take place under the patronage of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS). It will also include an appearance by 2022 Nobel Prize laureate Douglas Diamond, the central bank announced on Tuesday.

The conference covers a wide range of topics that reflect current challenges and trends in the financial world. Participants will discuss topics such as fintech and innovation, risks of climate change, corporate finance, banking regulations, real estate prices and inflation. According to the NBS, leading representatives of central banks from Germany, Italy, England, Portugal, Sweden and Canada, as well as representatives of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the US Fed, will be among the participants.

"It is a great honor for us to host this prestigious annual event. The following days will bring a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, present innovations and build new collaborations. The rich history of Bratislava and its dynamic economic environment provide an ideal backdrop for this meeting," commented NBS Governor Peter Kažimír.

According to the central bank, holding the conference in Bratislava would not have been possible without the involvement and patronage of Ľuboš Pástor, a former member of the NBS Bank Council and professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. "I am very happy that we can welcome top economists from all over the world to Slovakia, and moreover in such a high number. This is a professional conference of the highest world level. It will present results that are at the frontiers of knowledge in the field of financial economics. We will see 243 professional articles that we selected from over 2,000 submissions," announced Pástor.
