On Wednesday, the government approved a draft amendment to the law on the funding of primary schools, secondary schools and school facilities. The amendment states that kindergartens will no longer receive funding from income taxes, but instead it will come from the state budget.
"A differentiated and transparent financing system for pre-primary education should be created in order to ensure stability, resilience and purposeful tying of funds allocated for education," stated the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth (MŠVVaM). The proposal will fulfill one of the goals of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic.
The Ministry pointed out that it does not foresee an impact on the public administration budget that is not covered by the budget, nor an impact on the revenues and expenses of the public administration as a whole. It also does not anticipate an impact on the limit of public administration expenditures.
Currently, according to the Ministry of Kindergartens, regardless of the founder, they are financed from the local government's own revenues, a significant part of which is the share of income tax on residents.
