Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) and Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenicky (SMER-SD) raised concerns among the opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) over their visit to China. KDH MEP Miriam Lexmann said that the coalition government is undermining Slovakia's national economic security. Lexmann recently returned from a conference held by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China in Taiwan with possible threats posed by China high on the agenda.
The Economy Ministry advocates the visit claiming that the country is not only an active global investor but is also a key player in global car production, a key sector for Slovakia.
KDH further criticised the ministers' choice of Anhui province for the trip, which is reportedly associated with the use of forced labour and the communist regime's so-called 're-education camps' in which religious and ethnic minorities and political prisoners are imprisoned.
