Culture: Coordinators announce cancellation of European Heritage Days 2024

The European Heritage Days (EHD) 2024 have been scrapped, its coordinators have reported on the website of the event, stating that the reason is the lack of financial support and the absence of communication from the Culture Ministry.

"Due to efforts to communicate about the future of the event being ignored by the current Culture Ministry leadership and the failure to provide financial support, the commissioned associations were forced to cancel the organization of EHD," reads the website, adding that the ministry didn't send them the contract for the subsidy until August 22.

At the same time, they thanked all the organisers over the 30 years of EHD's existence in Slovakia. "We hope that next year our cooperation will be renewed," they said.

The European Heritage Days is an event that started in 1985 on the initiative of the Council of Europe. Since 1999 it has been co-organised by the European Union. It takes place in 50 European countries that have signed the European Cultural Convention. Slovakia joined the EHD organisers in 1993.
