Schools are urgently seeking 1,423 teachers and 12 principals just days before the new school year, with the highest demand for mathematics teachers. The situation is particularly critical in western Slovakia. Online job recruitment company Alma Career's analysis, shared by PR manager Ľubica Melcerová, reveals that over 1,700 job openings are listed on Edujobs.sk, 82% of which are for teaching roles. The most sought-after are primary school teachers, with 278 positions unfilled.
Teaching assistants are the most popular roles, averaging 24 applicants per position. In contrast, there’s low interest in specialized roles like school special educators, with fewer than three applicants per listing. The Bratislava region has the most vacancies, while the Košice region shows the highest applicant interest. Non-teaching roles, particularly kitchen staff, are also in high demand, with over 60 vacancies and strong applicant interest.
According to Melcerova, there is a high interest in non-teaching positions. Currently, schools lack more than 60 employees for the work of auxiliary forces in the kitchen and cooks.
