Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and his Czech counterpart Petr Pavel are set to unveil a new astronomical clock on the grounds of the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library (NCSML) in the US state of Iowa in late September, TASR learnt on Tuesday from the NCSML website.
The clock will form part of a clock tower built nearly 30 years ago. As the NCSML celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it's renovating the tower and has supplemented it with an astronomical clock in the style of the historic clock at the Old Town Hall in Prague to mark the occasion.
The clock will feature a total of twelve approximately one metre tall wooden figures carved by Slovak artist and sculptor Andrej Harsany. The figures will move every hour to music by Czech composers Antonin Dvorak and Bedrich Smetana. According to the NCSML, the figures represent the stories of immigrants who have come to the USA from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries.
The unveiling ceremony will take place on September 27 and it will be free of charge and open to the public.
Pellegrini and Pavel will take part in the unveiling ceremony after attending the upcoming General Debate of the UN General Assembly.
