The number of allowances for providing accommodation to Ukrainian refugees fell by three quarters in July when compared to June, Interior Ministry's spokesperson Matej Neumann told TASR.
While Slovak citizens received allowances for over 33,000 Ukrainian refugees in June, the figure was only something over 8,000 in July. The drop in the number came after rules for providing the allowance changed as of July 1.
"A total of [just over] €1.2 million was paid in allowances for accommodating Ukrainian refugees in July 2024," said Neumann, adding that the amount in June reached almost €5 million.
The number of eligible applicants, i.e. those who accommodate Ukrainian refugees and receive the allowance, fell from the previous month as well. While over 10,000 people applied for the allowance in June, only 3,440 did so in July.
Meanwhile, the number of Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia increased month-on-month. While in June, 2,351 Ukrainians applied for refuge status in Slovakia, the figure grew to almost 3,000 in July.
Allowances for accommodating Ukrainian refugees is only being provided for the first 120 days as of July. The only exceptions concern vulnerable groups, such as children up to five years of age, people who take care of them, disabled people and pensioners older than 65.
