A prosecutor of Banska Bystrica District Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion to remand in custody a man who broke into the house of 96-year-old Vladimir Strmen, one of the last living veterans of the 1944 Slovak National Uprising, on August 29 while the veteran was away at a commemoration event.
The police detained the 30-year-old burglar on August 30, with the man confessing to the crime. He managed to steal a number of items, including a ring, medals valuable to the veteran and €200 in cash. Upon his confession, the man handed back all the stolen things save for the cash, which he no longer had.
