No lay offs at Volkswagen in Slovakia

Volkswagen in Slovakia will not lay off employees at its Bratislava and Martin (Zilina region) plants in connection with the parent group's recent announcement of possible plant closures around the world, Volkswagen Slovakia spokesperson Lucia Kovarovic Makayova told TASR on Tuesday.

"We started production of new generations of Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb at the end of last year, and we're also preparing for the launch of a new, all-electric Porsche Cayenne SUV. In this context, we continue to recruit new employees on an ongoing basis, with the greatest demand for professionals with an electrical engineering background," added the spokesperson.

German car group Volkswagen recently announced that it is not ruling out plant closures and redundancies as part of a cost-cutting programme. The company also said on Monday (September 2) after a management meeting that it is also cancelling its previously existing job guarantee agreement, which ruled out employer-mandated layoffs until 2019.
