A number of schools across Slovakia on Wednesday morning received a threatening email claiming that landmines have been planted on their premises.
The police have reported on Facebook that they are taking necessary measures in cooperation with the schools concerned, adding that they are in close contact with other security forces and foreign partners, including the Czech police.
Both the parents of the children concerned and school staff have been assured that the police are following standard operational procedures, as are individual schools.
"Our common goal is first and foremost the safety of children in schools, but also the least possible disruption to classes. That's why we're taking an individual approach to security measures in each school," said the police.
The case is being dealt with by the police department for the fight against organised crime and is being treated as a terrorist attack.
