Slovakia observes September 9th as the Day of Holocaust and Racial Violence Victims, marking the adoption of the Jewish Code in 1941, which severely restricted the rights of Jewish citizens during WWII. At a commemoration in Bratislava, President Peter Pellegrini warned of the resurgence of extremist ideologies like fascism, fuelled by social media and the internet, making hate spread faster.
Holocaust survivor Pavel Traubner and Lord Collins of Highbury also attended. Collins stressed that the Holocaust began in the minds of ordinary people manipulated by propaganda. Richard Duda urged vigilance, emphasizing the need to fight hate to honour the victims and protect future generations.
