Europe must invest in improving its capabilities and securing more dignified living standards for every person in Slovakia as well as Europe with the use of developmental projects and cooperation, President Peter Pellegrini declared at his meeting with European Investment Bank (EIB) President Nadia Calvino on Wednesday.
"It's only up to us to decide our future. Europe must invest in improving its own capabilities," said Pellegrini.
Together with the European Investment Fund (EIF), EIB supports investment projects in Slovakia aimed at reducing disparities between European regions and bolster economic competitiveness. In the previous year, the financial institution was involved in the financing of energy and urban development projects, services and support for small- and mid-sized businesses.
The EIB signed new loans worth €254 million in Slovakia. In 2023, the support was extended to about 700 small-sized businesses, which amounts to about 23,000 jobs, with almost 85 percent of financial resources routed to less developed regions. Hence, the EIB helps to improve the lives of Slovaks, supports sustainable development and contributes towards the meeting of Slovakia's strategic goals within the EU.
