By the end of 2026, around 3,000 schools should be covered by an artificial intelligence camera system. The aim is to prevent the spread of various security threats. Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Hlas-SD) said this after Wednesday’s cabinet meeting in connection with the approved material on the introduction of a camera system in primary and secondary schools. According to him, this year cameras will be deployed in three pilot schools.
“These will be modern generation cameras, which will also have so-called face recognition. It will be a solution that will not burden police officers in individual district departments,” Šutaj Eštok noted.
The system will be GDPR-compliant, according to Šutaj Estok. Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) pointed out that compliance with the law is necessary.
At the Wednesday meeting, the government approved the material, which includes active monitoring of objects, an automated alert system and more. It has earmarked more than 62 million euros for the project. The primary funding will come from European Union sources, according to the interior minister.
