On Thursday, lawmakers debated into the night. Shortly after 11 pm, they finished the discussion on the motion to dismiss Michal Šimečka from the post of House Vice-chair. They are expected to decide on it during the next vote of the current ordinary session, on Tuesday morning. Members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic (NR SR) from the opposition PS party, SaS party and KDH party will not take part in the vote. The chairperson of the PS party club Martin Dubéci announced this.
Smer-SD party MP Plevikova reiterated suspicions about Šimečka's family drawing state subsidies. She confirmed that the Smer-SD caucus will vote to oust Šimečka as House Vice-chair, citing the lack of defence from him. Once removed, the opposition will have the right to propose a new vice-chair.
KDH MP František Mikloško called the no-confidence motion against Michal Šimečka undemocratic and uncultured during Thursday's debate. He argued that Šimečka became vice-chair through political agreements in the 2023 election and condemned the motion as slander against Šimečka's family.
Lawmakers of coalition's SNS party hope that Parliament will oust Šimecka, SNS party leader Andrej Danko declared on Thursday. The SNS head also claimed that he would support Frantisek Mikloško' nomination for the House Vice-chair post.
