President Peter Pellegrini thanked the rescue and civil services for their work during the several-day fight against floods that affected many areas of the country. He emphasized that their help was extremely professional. He also praised the government and relevant departments that are taking concrete steps to directly help affected households. "These people deserve the deep admiration and recognition of the entire society for their personal commitment to saving lives and property. I must appreciate that the rescue work was organized in the most professional manner, without unnecessary confusion and with proper communication between all involved parties," the president said.
He believes that the worst situation is already behind Slovakia. "And looking at the neighboring countries, which are also struggling with the water element, we can only be grateful that the floods in Slovakia were avoided without loss of human life and health," he noted. At the same time, the President called on citizens to be humane, self-sacrificing and mutually helpful. "This is when we come across disputes or differences of opinion together - this is the time to support your neighbor together or to help with damage removal," he said.
