The water level of the Danube in Bratislava is likely to peak by Wednesday (September 18), with the entire Slovak section of the Morava River expected to stabilise soon, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office (SHMU) reported on its website on Tuesday.
The meteorologists expect the precipitation will soon start to ebb and clouds dissipate, particularly in northern Slovakia.
Currently, the water level of the Danube in Bratislava equals 964 centimetres, whereas the Morava River stands at 583 centimetres.
Third-level hydrological alerts are in place for all districts through which the Morava and the Danube flow.
The village of Chlaba (Nitra region) declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, as the water level of the Danube continues to rise in the region and is forecast to peak as late as on Thursday (September 19) during the day, the Nitra Region (NSK) reported after a session of the local crisis team in Nove Zamky.
The bridge over the Ipel River in Chlaba has been closed due to the rising level of the water in the river, Nitra Regional Police Directorate Tuesday. The cross-border bridge in Chlaba connects Slovakia with Hungary.
