The Medical Trade Union (LOZ) is asking the Minister of Health Zuzana Dolinková (Hlas-SD) to dismiss director of the Trenčín University Hospital (FN) Michal Plesník and his deputies. The union cites major failures in management as the reason for the dismissal request.
According to LOZ, hospital management failed to resolve personnel issues in the cardiology department. The union claims that the department lacks quality personnel, which lead to an uncertified urologist serving in cardiology.
The management of Trenčín hospital has the confidence of the Minister of Health. According to the department, it is doing everything to ensure the proper operation of the cardiology department.
"The approach of the minister and the very dubious statements of the director significantly worsen the situation, which is quite critical, in the Slovak health sector. His statements and the entire approach of the director and the Ministry of Health to all these cases significantly destabilize the hospital," declared LOZ chairman Peter Visolajský, adding that FN Trenčín may lose additional staff if the situation does not improve.
According to Visolajský, the worsening situation in cardiology is also illustrated by the number of procedures. In May and June, doctors performed 135 coronary angiograms at the cardiology department in Trenčín. In July and August, there were 73. Visolajský also denied that such a decrease was caused by seasonality. As he explained, coronary angiography is not a planned but an emergency examination.
"The situation around the Trenčín University Hospital is beginning to resemble an endless story. For two months now, the Department of Health has been declaring that it has been intensely interested in what is happening in the hospital on a regular basis from the beginning," the department declared.
