Heads of the coalition parties Smer-SD, Hlas-SD, and SNS reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a government majority and the ability to make crucial decisions within the government and parliament. This commitment includes the upcoming votes on the consolidation package and tax reform related to financial transactions, as discussed during a coalition council meeting on Wednesday.
The coalition leaders also addressed potential no-confidence motions against Health Minister Zuzana Dolinková (Hlas-SD), Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (SNS nominee), and Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD). The government office stated, "There are no reasons for the dismissal of the mentioned ministers, and in this spirit, the coalition will also proceed in parliament." However, the opposition is pushing for their dismissal, with proposals expected to be discussed at the end of the current parliamentary session.
The consolidation package is set for a vote on Thursday, October 3, following ongoing debates in the parliament since Tuesday, October 1. Coalition leaders announced they would hold a joint press conference after receiving the package.
Andrej Danko, head of the SNS, expressed confidence in the coalition's united support for the government during the vote on the consolidation package. He emphasized the need for difficult decisions due to the irresponsible governance of previous administrations. "I am proud that the SNS protected the interests of its departments. Despite the consolidation, taxes will be lower in accommodation facilities and catering establishments. We have helped self-employed people and small companies, and at the same time, more money will go into sports, tourism, and culture," he stated on social media.
