MP Michal Šipoš escorted out for dress code violation

Member of Parliament Michal Šipoš (Slovensko, Za ľudí, KÚ) was escorted out of the parliament's meeting hall on Wednesday evening after refusing to leave voluntarily. Deputy Chairman Tibor Gašpar (Smer-SD) expelled him following repeated warnings about his attire, specifically a T-shirt featuring a message from the Slovakia movement. Gašpar stated that Šipoš violated the rules of procedure, as the T-shirt constituted a visual display, which is prohibited in the meeting hall. He explained that Šipoš could have remedied the situation by wearing a jacket over the T-shirt, but failed to do so.

Following Šipoš's expulsion, the board of deputies continued their deliberations. Šipoš argued that other MPs had previously spoken while displaying stickers on their laptops, leading him to believe he could also appear in a T-shirt. He expressed frustration at not having the opportunity to address the assembly during the debate on the consolidation package, claiming the discussion was cut short, which denied him a chance to speak.

"I didn't have the opportunity to speak in the abbreviated proceedings because they 'cut' the debate. I didn't have the opportunity to speak in the first reading because they limited the time, and I didn't get my turn," he stated to journalists. Šipoš aimed to comment on the consolidation plan, which he claims would take €2.7 billion from citizens. He emphasized that the rules of procedure do not specify what clothing a deputy must wear in the hall.

Gašpar responded by highlighting that the order governing the conduct of negotiations was adopted by the previous government, which included the Slovensko party (formerly OĽANO). "According to this valid order, it is forbidden to use posters, banners, leaflets, and other similar displays in the meeting hall," he explained, noting that Šipoš had already received warnings regarding his attire. After Šipoš's refusal to leave, Gašpar authorized police officers from the Office for the Protection of Constitutional Officials to assist in his removal.
