Prime Minister vows to restore ties with Russia

Prime Minister Robert Fico stated on Thursday that if the war in Ukraine ends during his government's mandate, he will work to restore normal and economic ties with Russia. Speaking ahead of a joint session of the Slovak and Ukrainian governments, Fico emphasized Slovakia's commitment to maintaining friendly relations with Ukraine. Fico plans to discuss Ukraine's role as a key transit country for essential goods at the upcoming meeting. He stressed that all wars must end at the negotiating table and hopes for a swift resolution to the conflict.Despite differing views, Fico praised the "good chemistry" between himself and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and expressed optimism about securing transit routes through Ukraine to Slovakia, a crucial issue for both countries.
