Prešov County provided 288 thousand euros to those affected by last year's earthquake

The Prešov Self-Governing Region provided people and organisations affected by last year's earthquake in the east of Slovakia with a total of 288 thousand euros.

The Prešov Self-Governing Region allocated the first financial aid back in October 2023 through the regional foundation, redistributing 136 thousand euros among individuals and families from the earthquake-affected districts. In the second phase, it provided funds to legal entities, more specifically to municipalities and churches. This happened in February this year, distributing 152 thousand euros among 22 entities, said regional spokesperson Daša Jeleňová, adding that they also appreciate the help from partner regions.

Help also came from Poland. The Lesser Poland Voivodeship provided financial assistance to Prešov Self-Governing Region, namely a non-repayable financial contribution worth one million zloty, which is approximately 225 thousand euros.

An earthquake struck eastern Slovakia on 9 October 2023. It had a 4.9 local magnitude with the epicentre in the village of Ďapalovce in the Vranov nad Topľou district. It left material damage in several villages.
