The Environment Fund will have over 284.3 million euros available next year from the proceeds of auctions of emission allowances. According to the environment ministry, the proposal aims to contribute to meeting climate goals by implementing measures also by ministries, while allowing the environment ministry to report annually on the use of the proceeds.
According to the government-approved redistribution of proceeds from the sale of emission allowances, the Environment Fund will be able to use about 142 million euros for climate purposes next year. More than 80 million will go towards projects to insulate public buildings. More than 25 million euros will be spent on projects to sequester carbon in forest soil and biomass, to finance measures to protect forests and soil and to retain water in the landscape. Next year, it will use more than 35 million to fund a state aid scheme for plants where there is a significant risk of carbon leakage, due to the pass-through of allowance costs into electricity prices.
