On Monday, Minister of Culture Martina Šimkovičová welcomed current and former artistic staff of the Slovak National Theatre (SND) Opera to express their support for recent changes at the theatre.
“We support the Ministry of Culture's actions and the leadership change, including the appointment of Rastislav Štúr as director of the SND Opera. We believe politics should not be involved in the theatre, and we aim to provide audiences with high-quality artistic experiences,” said opera singer Terézia Kružliaková.
The artists discussed the cultural community's state with the minister, who thanked them for their support and emphasized the SND's apolitical stance. “The public space has often communicated the opinions of one group. I’m glad that artists who were dissatisfied with previous leadership have welcomed the current steps taken by the Ministry,” she stated. Šimkovičová reaffirmed the ministry's rejection of censorship and interference in cultural programming.
