Until Slovakia restores its own national capacity of combat aircraft, Hungary remains determined to continue to help its neighbor control its airspace. Hungarian Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky stated this on Tuesday in Kecskemét after a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák.
The Hungarian minister said that this year Hungary is participating in the fulfillment of Slovakia's tasks in the area of airspace protection, and according to the agreement signed by Kaliňák in Kecskemét, it will also participate in this work in 2025. Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized that the development of joint defense capabilities and mutual support are essential for maintaining stability in Central Europe. "In accordance with our commitments to NATO, JAS 39 Gripen combat aircraft have been present in the airspace of Slovakia and Slovenia for years, and every three years in the airspace of the Baltic states," explained the Hungarian Minister of Defense.
