The parliament spent Monday debating an opposition proposal to remove Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (SNS nominee) from office. A vote is expected Tuesday, October 29, on both her and Justice Minister Boris Susko’s (Smer-SD) potential dismissals. The opposition criticizes Šimkovičová for personnel changes at the Slovak National Theatre and National Gallery, and for harming public media and cultural institutions. Šimkovičová insists her actions are lawful, and the government supports her qualifications.
Dušan Jarjabek (Smer-SD) stated that if Hlas-SD MPs vote for her dismissal, it would breach the coalition agreement. While Smer-SD backs Šimkovičová, three Hlas-SD MPs are still undecided and plan to meet with her before the vote.
