A total of 131 doctors have resigned from the University Hospital in Trenčín, according to hospital spokesperson Martina Holecová. More than 2,700 doctors from hospitals across Slovakia began submitting resignations on Tuesday, October 29, in protest of conditions in the healthcare sector. The doctors have expressed willingness to negotiate and withdraw their resignations if the government addresses their demands, particularly those outlined in the 2022 memorandum signed by the previous cabinet and the Medical Trade Union Association. They are also calling for a public assurance that state hospitals will not be converted into joint-stock companies. Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Hlas-SD) confirmed openness to further negotiations, stating that the proposed increase in doctors' salaries should not hinder reaching an agreement.
