Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Tibor Gašpar, is stepping down from his position as Chairman of the Parliamentary Defense and Security Committee. He stated that the reason is his workload as Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
“Today, I resigned from the position of Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee. If elected, MP Richard Glück will replace me. I believe that I am currently quite occupied with my role as Deputy Speaker of the Parliament,” said Gašpar. He intends to remain a member of the Defense and Security Committee.
Besides Gašpar, the Deputy Speaker positions are held by SNS leader Andrej Danko and Hlas-SD’s Peter Žiga, who is acting as the interim Speaker of the Parliament. Since April, the National Council has been without a Speaker following Peter Pellegrini’s victory in the presidential elections. Additionally, an opposition Deputy Speaker role remains unfilled following the removal of Progressive Slovakia leader Michal Šimečka from the position.
