President Peter Pellegrini has enacted several legislative updates, focusing on wages, social support, and gender balance in corporate boards. Starting in 2026, Slovakia’s minimum wage will be pegged at 60% of the national average wage. This is expected to raise the monthly minimum to 920 EUR and the hourly wage to 5.287 EUR by 2026. The law also reinstates sector-wide collective agreements to improve worker protections.
The President signed among several others a social services law enhancing financial support for elderly care and home services. Additionally, the allowance for caregiving of children with disabilities will increase to 200 EUR. In education, a new compensatory allowance will support teachers working in areas with high staff shortages mainly in underserved regions. The gender balance law, following an EU directive, mandates balanced representation of men and women in corporations. Larger publicly traded companies must prioritize candidates of the underrepresented gender, with annual reporting requirements and penalties for non-compliance.
