Unsuccessful presidential candidate and former Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok has joined the opposition Progresívne Slovensko (PS) party. Korčok is committed to supporting a pro-European, democratic, and modern force to move Slovakia forward. PS leader Michal Šimečka praised Korčok's professionalism and shared vision for a modern European Slovakia.
“The reasons why I decided to join PS are our common values and goals. By common values, I mean things that already seemed obvious, namely democracy, the rule of law, Slovakia's place in the world and equality before the law. This month we commemorate the events of November 17, 1989 and in the spirit of this day, these values need to be fought for again,” says Korčok.
Korčok will focus on preparing the party’s election program and strategic direction and his goal is to unite various political views. He confirmed he will not run for PS leader against Šimečka, who reiterated PS's ambition to win the next elections and bring political change to Slovakia.
