Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded former Slovak Prime Minister and dissident Ján Čarnogurský the Order of Honor for his role in strengthening friendship and cooperation between nations. The decoration was presented by Vladimir Konstantinov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Crimean State Council, in Moscow on November 6. Čarnogurský also received the Crimean "For Loyalty to Duty" award. The event was part of the Yalta International Forum and the Coordination Council of the International Association of Friends of Crimea, which was held in Moscow due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The award has raised concerns, as it comes from Russian authorities, including those from Crimea, which was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. This connection could be seen as support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Accepting such an honor may undermine Slovakia’s position on international law and its commitment to Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
