On Wednesday, during the first day of his visit to Italy, Slovak Minister of the Environment Tomáš Taraba met with Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini. Taraba praised Salvini for his stance on protecting European borders from illegal migration. The two ministers agreed to coordinate Slovakia and Italy’s positions in reviewing obligations under the European Green Deal. Taraba also extended an invitation for Salvini to visit Slovakia. This was reported by the Slovak Ministry of the Environment's communications department.
The cooperation between Slovakia and Italy is expected to focus on environmental regulations, which the Slovak ministry argues are undermining Europe's competitiveness. "We agreed that our countries will not only exchange information closely but will also coordinate our approach on EU matters," said Taraba. Salvini, referencing his background as Italy's former Minister of the Interior, praised Taraba as "an outstanding politician with both Italian and European significance."
On his first day in Italy, Taraba also met with representatives from Sogesid, a state-owned company specializing in environmental remediation. In the coming days, he will hold talks with Italian Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, to discuss a potential cooperation agreement on addressing environmental burdens. "Italy has made tremendous progress in this area recently, and we aim to apply their experience to tackle ecological burdens here in Slovakia," Taraba added.
