President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini commemorated the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy and the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in several places in Slovakia.
He laid wreaths at the Gate of Freedom memorial in Bratislava's Devín and at the Central Memorial to Executed and Martyred Political Prisoners of Communism in Bratislava's Vrakuna.
"The main feature of November '89 was not a hateful call for revenge, but a positive emotion of mutual understanding, solidarity and respect. I am convinced that the key to our common success as a nation is to be able to return to these values. So that we do not just remember them as a symbol of November '89, but that they shape our everyday lives," the Head of State said in his address at the Gate of Freedom.
